Jennifer Charlton is a strategic communications professional with experience in both the private and public sector. Her career spans communication planning, media analysis, creative advertising, and social media strategy development and execution. She currently focuses on communication planning as part of the kglobal team supporting the U.S. Navy Chief of Information.
Prior to joining kglobal, Jennifer spent five years working at the Consulate General of Switzerland in New York. She was hired by the Swiss government in 2012 to launch a social media and digital strategy for the Consulate, as part of an e-diplomacy pilot project from the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. She successfully launched the Consulate's digital presence across numerous social media platforms, engaging new audiences in the U.S. on topics related to Switzerland. She trained Swiss diplomats on the use of social media, in addition to creating digital strategies and social media guidelines. She also managed events, conducted in media relations and engaged in other forms of communication outreach on behalf of the Consulate.
As founder of the New York Digital Diplomacy Meetup, Jennifer regularly met with foreign governments and tech startups to discuss how innovative technologies could be used to support public diplomacy efforts. She organized workshops and events with speakers from Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Google and has been a speaker on the topic of Digital Diplomacy at SXSW, the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York, the Social Media Summit NYC and the Social Media Analytics Summit Miami. She launched the New York Chapter of the Digital Diplomacy Coalition's (DDC) and currently sits on the DDC Leadership Team.
Jennifer started her career at a creative advertising agency in New York City and also worked in strategic communications at a social media analytics startup in San Francisco.
Jennifer received her degree in Advertising & Marketing Communications from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.
